Once your fiancé enters the U.S. on a K-1 visa, you must get married within 90 days of their arrival. The K-1 visa is specifically for this purpose and cannot be extended. If you don’t get married within that 90-day window, your fiancé is required to leave the U.S. Marriage to anyone other than the visa sponsor isn’t allowed. During those 90 days, your fiancé cannot work. To work legally, they must apply for work authorization, which typically happens after they’re married and file the next set of immigration forms.
